Appeals

The North Carolina court system has five different levels of courts: Magistrate’s Office, District Court, Superior Court, North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Civil suits such as divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, equitable distribution and cases involving less than $10,000 are heard in District Court, along with criminal cases involving misdemeanors and infractions.

All felony criminal cases, civil cases involving more than $10,000, and misdemeanor and infraction appeals from District Court are tried in Superior Court. Together, the Superior and District courts handle more than 2.8 million cases a year.

In North Carolina, District and Superior Courts decisions can be appealed to the N. C. Court of Appeals. The Appellate Advocacy Group of Gailor, Wallis & Hunt is headed by Kim Wallis, a former law clerk to the Honorable Judge Walker of the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and is well-qualified to assist you with your appeal. With comprehensive knowledge of the appellate rule system, we can advise you when you believe the judgment in your case is a mistake and justice has not been served.

Criminal Defense

The Criminal Defense Group of GWH is committed to assisting clients faced with criminal investigation and charges. The group is headed by a former prosecutor in the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, Stephanie Jenkins. Her background includes becoming the first prosecutor in Wake County’s Criminal Domestic Violence Court and later a member of the Dangerous Offenders Task Force.
