Cathy C. Hunt is a former judicial clerk for the Honorable Adolpho A. Birch, Jr., former Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Before assuming duties as an associate with Gailor, Wallis & Hunt, PLLC, Cathy practiced corporate law with Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge and Rice in Raleigh and McGuire, Woods, Battle and Booth in Northern Virginia. Most of Cathy’s time was devoted to mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.

Cathy has represented clients in all sectors of the business community, with a concentration of clients in the high tech market. She also has corporate law experience with an emphasis on the formation of business entities, meetings of shareholders and boards of directors, employment contracts, shareholder agreements and general contract issues.

Cathy has participated in large antitrust and class action cases involving complex document production. Her corporate law experience provides her with the expertise necessary to understanding complex equitable distribution cases, especially those involving business valuation issues. Cathy has also successfully completed the exam for the American Society of Appraisers Business Valuation course BV201. Cathy's practice also includes in-depth financial analysis in alimony and child support cases.  

Cathy devotes a substantial amount of time to pro bono activities and serves as a guardian ad litem for the Wake County Guardian Ad Litem program. She also accepts pro bono cases in the area of family law as her schedule permits.

Cathy's practice also includes legal service to the gay and lesbian community including the drafting of partnership agreements, parenting agreements, powers of attorney, medical directives and advice on the current state of the law in North Carolina as it relates to the gay and lesbian community.

Cathy received her J.D. degree in 1996 from the University of Memphis where she was a member of the Law Review. She also received the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence in the Study of Juvenile Courts and is listed in Who’s Who of law students. Cathy received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington graduating first in her class.
