Stephanie J. Gibbs practices family law and criminal defense at Gailor, Wallis & Hunt, P.L.L.C. Before joining the firm, she was an associate in private practice with G. Bryan Collins, Jr., now Wake County’s Chief Public Defender. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Martha A. Geer of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. In addition to representing clients in family law matters, Stephanie, working with firm associate Stephanie T. Jenkins, offers representation in all types of criminal matters. Because criminal issues such as child abuse and domestic violence often arise in family law cases, the ability to address these matters ensures clients’ needs are fully met. Stephanie also has represented clients in civil child abuse and neglect cases, and has served as a volunteer guardian ad litem, advocating the best interests of abused and neglected children. Stephanie was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 2003. She received her B.A. in English and Written Communication from the State University of New York College at Brockport, graduating magna cum laude in 1980. In 2003, after more than 20 years as an award-winning newspaper journalist, she received her law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill, with recognition for her pro bono service. She is chair of the Legislative Subcommittee of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Disability Law Committee, which is committed to improving the availability and quality of legal services to people with disabilities in North Carolina.
